4.48 Psychosis

For this production of Sarah Kane's haunting play, we wanted to incorporate the idea of mental anguish as a state of active decay, rather than stasis. Dyeing techniques were used to evoke images of mould growing on old, comfortable, bed rotting clothes, while the warm pinks and reds worn by the patient's loved ones & nurses in the final added scene offered a reminder of life beyond the stifling haze of one's own mind.

Attempts On Her Life

Attempts On Her Life is absurd, witty, abstract, and deeply concerned with the ways in which we perform our identity to the world (and the truths contained within the lie). The actors begin in their own rehearsal clothes, as they seek to find 'Anne' through a series of vignettes. Finally immersing themselves fully in the process nearly 2/3 of the way through, they emerge once again as jewel toned caricatures of themselves, ready to perform for the audience, each other, and maybe even Anne, if they ever find her...

Wigs were pulled from my own personal collection, fully deconstructed, & rebuilt using foam under-structures & adhesives to create bold, larger than life shapes. Jewel toned pieces were either constructed or heavily altered, and rehearsal looks were created from the actors' personal pieces. Vignette pieces were pulled, with the exception of Carson's 'Alien' helmet, which was constructed from a colander & various found objects.

Design Assignments

A variety of design work for TMU courses that haven't made it to full scale productions (yet?)
